In my first international teaching practice school, a gym teacher taught the gym lessons. Because I thought it would be good to see how the children were acting with a different teacher, how a gym lesson goes and who their teacher is, I thought it would be good for me to go with them, even though the teacher told me that this wasn’t necessary. I asked the gym teacher questions about his lesson and could bring some information back to the class teacher.
After School Care
In one of my teaching practice places, one day the teacher was sick and I was working together with a substitute. At the end of the day, we looked at a list to see which children needed to go to after school care. One of the boys was not on the list but he said he had to go and a classmate said the same. Before thinking that these Kindergartners must be right, I contacted the after school care to ask and they told me that his first day is next week and not today.
One day, my mentor was sick. I remembered that on some days children go to OLP, where they get one on one attention from a teacher that gives the same lesson as the homeroom teacher gives to the rest of the class. I didn't know where to find the schedule for this, so I e-mailed the OLP teacher if she could tell me if she was expecting anyone from our class today.
